Artist: Boris with Michio Kurihara |
| Album Title: Rainbow |
| Label: Pedal Records |
Boris had a pretty busy year. Right after the release of their critically acclaimed Pink
album they immediately went in the studio for a collaborative effort with SunO))) and now
they join forces with Ghost's guitarist, Michio Kurihara, for Rainbow. The music in this
record, for a lack of better words, is sublime and heavy. You wont find the saturated
sludge burners that made up most of Pink and Akuma no Uta. Instead Boris treats you with
a more atmospheric dose of shoegaze, stoner, ballads and even some pop-tinged songs.
Michio Kurihara's guitar wizardry really shines in this album, providing songs with solos
that demands attention, but not overpowering. Instead he amplifies/enhances the mood the
Boris trio create with his overdriven, wah-drenched electric guitar. I highly recommend
Rainbow, the most successful collaborative effort I have heard in a long time. Plus, Wata
sings in one of the songs.
Favorites: Rainbow, Starship Narrator, Sweet no.1.
Score: 9/10
